Vaka Tautua Gains Telarc Quality Health Accreditation
The high standards of service provided by Vaka Tautua have been recognised by the award of accreditation status by Telarc Quality Health. This award recognises the quality of service delivered and the commitment to continuous improvement.
Peter Rose, (CEO) of Telarc-SAI Ltd, presented the accreditation certificate at a special ceremony held at the facility today and attended by 60 staff, and representatives of other health and disability sector organisations. “Management and staff are to be congratulated for an outstanding effort in gaining accreditation. The community can feel confident that this health service is providing excellent standards of service and safe care to its clients,” said Dr Siale Foliaki, Board Chair of Vaka Tautua.
Vaka Tautua is a Pacific NGO service provider with its head office based in Ellerslie and regional/national services located in West Auckland, Wellington (Porirua) and Christchurch. The organisation’s mission is to contribute to the overall health and wellbeing of Pacific people by promoting, delivering and providing a quality information and advisory service.

The organisation is also committed to ensuring Pacific people are educated about their health and wellbeing and provided with appropriate resources to assist in their recovery to wellness whilst removing social and environmental barriers to their full participation within their community and the wider society.

Vaka Tautua provides national and regional disability, mental health, older peoples and support services for Pacific peoples and is unswerving in its approach to ensuring that the delivery of its services includes a holistic Pacific flavour of health.
Vaka Tautua’s CEO Philip Beilby said “The auditors were impressed by our systems and processes as well as the Pasifika feel of the organisation. They could see the passion and commitment the staff had for their work and for our Pacific communities.”

Telarc Quality Health, a division of Telarc SAI Limited is this country’s leading Standards and Performance Assessment Agency for Health and Disability Services. Telarc Quality Health have been providing assessment and quality improvement services in the health sector since 1990, with the objective of upgrading the standard of public and private hospitals and health services in New Zealand.
Accreditation surveyors examine the consumer focus and cultural appropriateness of services; the multi-disciplinary treatment and care of clients; management and clinical systems; the safety of services, personnel and facilities; the teamwork, leadership and governance in the organisation; and the commitment to continuous quality improvement. To be accredited, a health service must measure up against the standards and demonstrate its commitment to quality.
